Making authentic French press coffee is relatively easy, but it requires a certain amount of technique. Use only Gevalia whole-bean Espresso Roast, regular or decaffeinated.

For back-of-the-house preparation:
Grind coffee beans in a grinder set at coarse grind. (Use only Gevalia whole-bean Espresso Roast, regular or decaffeinated.)

Place pot on a dry, flat surface. Hold handle firmly and pull plunger unit straight up and out of the pot; set aside.

Place 4 scoops (or a heaping 1/3 cup) of coffee into the pot.

Pour 2 cups of hot water (190°F to 200°F) into the pot. (Fresh, filtered water is recommended.) Stir with a plastic spoon. (Note: Metal spoons can scratch or chip the glass container.)

Place the plunger on top of the pot. Turn lid to close off the pour spout opening. Do not press down.

Let coffee brew for 4 to 5 minutes.

Cleaning:
Unscrew the filter assembly and clean the plunger unit after each use.

All parts are dishwasher safe.

Safety precautions:
Not for stove-top use.

Check glass container for scratches or chips.

Using excessive force can cause scalding liquid to spray out of the pot.

If the filter clogs or it becomes difficult to press down the plunger, remove the plunger from the pot. Stir the brew and then slowly plunge again.

Do not allow children to use this coffee maker.
