The winner of the 2009 Chefs of Grey Poupon Student Culinary Competition, Kamal Rose, was selected by the 2009 Chefs of Grey Poupon and received a $20,000 student scholarship. Students were judged on the following criteria: taste, use of product, creativity, appearance and kitchen organization.

Also new to the competition this year was a surprise Mystery Basket Challenge. The four competing students were given an assortment of mystery ingredients to create an appetizer dish that would perform as a good transition to their main dish. To complete their appetizer, the students were required to use Grey Poupon Classic Dijon or Country Dijon Mustard and at least two ingredients from the mystery basket, which contained five signature Kraft products – Oscar Mayer Bacon, Ritz Crackers, Philadelphia Cream Cheese, Kraft Mayonnaise and Velveeta Cheese.
